This rose is one result of the deliberate effort of the Antique Rose Emporium to produce garden friendly roses from a breeding program initiated by Dr Robert Basye at Texas A&M University. His ultimate goal was to introduce disease free roses. 'Pioneer Spirit' mimics the old Tea, 'Sombreuil', in flower and form except that it is pink. The 6 to 8 feet long canes hold shiny foliage and lightly fragrant, full medium pink roses.

Two surviving roses that were found in a neglected garden, ‘April Moon’ and ‘Tess of the Urbervilles’, were crossed and gave rise to this peachy apricot rose that contains a  wonderful myrrh scent.  Qualities like disease resistance and cold hardiness  will make this rose the “prince” of your garden. Plant where you can cut, smell and enjoy the roses.

'Promises' is a very brightly colored rose, seemingly always in bloom. Its clean foliage and vibrant pink/magenta blooms contrast to make an outstanding landscape plant. Its compact growth habit is ideally suited for container planting or for hedging. This rose also produces rose hips as added interest.

This rose was named in honor of  the Texas Rose Rustler and rose breeder, Ray Ponton.  One inch, clustered,  mauve flowers smother the bush when it is in bloom.  Given the diminutive size of this very floriferous rose, planting in mass along walkways or in containers would be ideal.

The growth habit of 'Rita Dennis' is like that of a classic Hybrid Tea, but much more carefree. The fragrant, double dark red roses have petals that are ruffled and frilly. The plant is upright and robust.

This rose has been named to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the city of Rockwall, TX. It is a compact rose to three feet with a fragrant double flower of soft pink. “Rockwall” makes an excellent container rose that will bloom spring through fall.

These delicate single pink flowers of 'Roemer's Hip Happy' are reminiscent of wild buttercups. Thornless, with dark green foliage, this rose’s most interesting quality is the enormous crop of hips that it reliably displays. Plants are small but bushy to four feet and will repeat with lots of fall blooms only if the hips are removed. Ferdinand Roemer was an early German naturalist that collected plant specimens near New Braunfels, TX.

This rose is unique and special.  Yellow flowers emerge only to age with pink and purple edges. It also has a fruity fragrance with a hint of musk. There are no limits to her use in the garden; a container showpiece, in a perennial border with yellow and purple bedding plants or simply by herself where she can shine!

This seedling of "Katy Road Pink" and ‘Mrs. Oakley Fisher’ was produced by the Antique Rose Emporium. Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas selected this rose for its blooming qualities and are patenting it under their namesake. The long-pointed, pink bud opens to a 3 inch, semi-double, flat flower of pale pink fading into a yellowish eye. The floral display of this rose is as beautiful in the fall as in the Spring.

'Smiling Kitts Bertha' is an upright shrub that produces semi-double yellow flowers that are ideal for cutting. 'Mrs. Pierre S DuPont', 'Anson Jones' and 'Carefree Beauty' comprise the lineage of this rose.

Mike Shoup claims this rose is the best of the "Pioneer Series" of roses introduced by the Antique Rose Emporium. It is truly exceptional! The fragrant, quartered blooms of peachy apricot appear in late spring and are followed by a strong fall repeat. The foliage is clean.

This wonderful rose is a cross between 'Carefree Beauty' and 'Graham Thomas'. It retained the carefree qualities of its mother, 'Carefree Beauty', while exhibiting a softer version of color from its father. The three inch semi-double flowers actually fade to an almost cream color in warmer weather. The plant is upright to six feet.

Sweet Frances', lovely apricot rose, was named for Frances Hobbs by our customer, Rebecca Franks who won our rose naming contest. She chose to name for her lovely mother who lives in DeRidder, LA. The two to three-inch flowers repeat from spring to fall. The six-foot upright shrub is very disease resistant most likely due to its bloodlines of ‘Heritage’, ‘Mrs. Oakley Fisher’ and ‘Carefree Beauty’.

We are pleased with "Sweet Pea,"our seedling of 'Lavender Pink Parfait,' as it fills a niche in our garden. It is ideally suited as a small border plant or low hedge. The one inch blooms of lavender and mauve are accentuated by the bright yellow stamens. The distinct coloration reminded us of the old fashion perennial, Sweet Peas, hence the name.

'Sweet Pegge' produces beautiful, velvety, dark red blooms of perfect form. It is ideal suited for container planting with loose canes spilling over the sides of the pot. Flowers can be used for cutting.

This wonderful, velvet, pink rose bears semi-double flowers on a compact, almost thornless three foot shrub. The abundant flowers of 'Sweet Verlin' seem to shine much like the lady, Verlin Kruse, for which it is named. As a gift from her children, this rose symbolizes perfectly her gift of gardening.

'Thomas Affleck' was bred at our nursery and named in honor of a notable 19th century nurseryman who had a nursery just a few miles from ours. The intensely cerise pink, semi-double blooms make a bold statement in the garden. It is a wonderful specimen for a mixed planting or large container and is useful near a walkway where its fragrance and thornless nature can be appreciated.

The Tuesday McMains rose is one of our Pioneer Trailblazer roses. This stunning shrub rose shows a profusion of delicate apricot semi-double blooms, making it a great choice for pollinators. It beautifully blends the characteristics of its parents. It shows the prolific, repeat blooming habit of Winter Sun and the extraordinary fragrance of Jean Teressa. 

This rose has a sweet yet light fragrance reminiscent of gardenia and jasmine. In addition to the beautiful blooms and pleasant fragrance, this rose also sets bountiful hips. Despite its delicate appearance, the Tuesday McMains rose is a shockingly low-maintenance rose that is exceptionally disease-resistant and boasts fewer thorns than the average rose.

This is the darkest purple rose we grow! That being said, with this wonderful novelty color, it requires a little extra care when it comes to blackspot. However, it’s worth it, once you smell the exotic and powerfully fragrant blooms of citrus and clove. Spurred by the idea of “how dark can we go?”,  this cross of ‘Midnight Blue’ and ‘Lavender Crush’ isn’t a disappointment.
